CIP Data Block (RDA)

SLC CIP DATA BLOCK 1 August 2015

When a client sends access to a PDF file for CIP to be included in the electronic text, do a full MARC record, plus a CIP data block in plain text.

For the CIP data block SLC follows the format LC adopted September 2015, with exceptions:

All elements are labelled.

All main and added *name* entries are at the top in LC practice.. [SLC moves added entries to the bottom, and supplies a relator to main entry.]

Imprint is now included.

RDA media terms are not given.

LC like LAC is omitting "pages cm"; it looked silly for multi-volume sets and serials.

The unit card Arabic and Roman numbering of subject and added enties are gone; young folk may have never seen a unit card.

LC is omitting relator from main entry. [It has been added in the samples below, as has jurisdictions to imprint as per SLC practice.]

CATALOGING IN PUBLICATION DATA BLOCK CHANGES
Implemented September 30, 2015 by LC.

Highlights of New Layout:

Includes labels for data elements
Names, Title, Description, Identifiers, Subjects, Classification
Combines print and electronic resource data elements into one CIP Data Block. SLC includes other names if any between subjects and classifications.
